This is my next blog as in the previous blog ( Underwater Waterfall), I told you that I am soon going to add a post on Underwater River, so this is it.
There are many Cenotes , they are the natural pit or sink holes that are formed because of collision of the limestone bedrock which results in the uplifting the groundwater to the surface. This is very similar to an oasis, but very different from it in many comparisons.
The most famous Cenotes are at Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. In ancient times, these were sometimes used for the sacrificial offering by Mayas.
Cenotes are the surface connections to subterranean water-bodies. At the depth, the fresh water met the saline sea water over which it floats and creates divisions.
The presence of trees indicates that once it was on the land, but due to natural phenomenon it sunk down. The Hydrogen sulfide, the gas with the worst smell separates the two water bodies due to Halocline phenomenon, which occurs when two water bodies with different densities interacts.
And the most mysterious question that must be bubbling in your mind, so the reason is that when the two different density water met it create a certain division which makes the saline water of subterranean water bodies like a river that flows to the sea. But in the photos excluding the scuba diver it will look like a photograph of a river which is taken a night.
