Studying abroad is the dream of nearly every young mind in India. As we feel that our country can’t provide us better support as the support here diverges into reserved quotas. This story is about a teenager who got a scholarship to study in the United States of America at one of the most reputed colleges. And rest is his journey how he created his own identity.
Like everyone he also had some aims and goals to fulfill. He gave exam of SAT and got a clearance and his intellect helped him to get into Princeton University. He wanted to be a Theoretical Physicist. Now the joining letter was in his hands. He was happy now his mother asked him to go to the nearest temple and thank the almighty that he got selected and as soon as his mother ended her sentences he sarcastically said,”oh !! so god went to give exams”. His mother looked hopelessly as if this was his normal attitude. He was an atheist. He was one of those who went deep into science to understand how matter works but never bother themselves to understand who is making them work in that way.
The ticket was in his hand, he was at the airport. This was the first time anyone from their family was going out of the country. His father wanted to company him but couldn’t. His mother was a strong believer of Lord Shiva. As soon as she reached home her chants could be heard by all their neighbors.
The airplane landed. He moved out of the airport after the completion of formalities. And then he looked for the taxi that was waiting for him. He found it and went to Princeton. He was welcomed by his professors. He liked Professor Bismuth. He was working on modifications on string theory. He got his room and roomie. His roomie was a student of humanities who wanted to be a social worker, he was from New York City. They both told each other about themselves and about their cultures. But as his roomie asked about his gods he turned off and told him he is an atheist. They both had a long conversation which didn’t end well as they both fall asleep.
For now, this ends here but this journey is going to throw his atheism.
